We must prepare ourselves for
the future with a deep
commitment to following God...

.
Be on Guard
Commit To Godliness
Grow in the Word
Go in the Spirit

A. Be onGuard
Preparing for difficult days...
      1. Rely on the equipping of God:
2 Sa 22:37 “You enlarged mypath under me; So my feet did not slip.”
         a.
Steady my walk: The Hebrew means ‘extend my stride’ orsteady my walk. David’s life is filled with examples of God’s provision on the path of life.

2. Rely on God’s warnings: Num 22:24 “Then the Angel of theLORD stood in a narrow path between the vineyards…”
        a.
Supernatural warnings: Be aware of possible manifestations of supernatural ‘warning’ signs. Authenticate before taking action!

B. Commit toGodliness
Living in the reverence of God...

   1. What NOT to do:Psalm 1:1 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful...

2. What to do:Psalm 16:11 “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
        a.
Notice the parallel between these two verses:

Walk not in the counsel…
You will show me the path of life
Do not stand with sinners…
In Your presence is fullness of joy
Do not sit with the scornful…
 At Your right hand—pleasures forever

C. Grow in the Word
Three reasons to grow in the Word...

     1. For protection:Psalm 27:11 “Teach me Your way, O LORD, and
lead me in a smooth path,
because of my enemies.”

2. For joy:Psalm 119:35 “Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it.

3. For direction:Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

 D. Go with the Spirit
Living the transformed life…

     1. Our goal: Gal 2:20 “...it is
no longer I who live, but
Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

2. The process—Walk in the Spirit:Gal 5:25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
a.
Work of sanctification: As we walk in the Spirit we have the   freedom and power to choose God instead of surrendering toour own desires.

Let us choose God and walk in
the Spirit in 2010 and
the decade beyond!

Our Vision: 2010

When I think of 2010 I think of the movie "2010 a Space Odyssey." And now here we are—going into 2010. The dictionary gives the following as one definition of ‘odyssey,’ “An intellectual or spiritual wandering or quest.”.
Rather than wandering spiritually as we move into 2010 our vision is to follow Jesus into the fullness and purposes He has for us as a church and as a people.

                       Casting the Nets

Peter never fished with a pole—at least that we know of. He was a net fisherman. We have two nets that we want to cast over our city in 2010.
                 1. The Net of Goodness!

      [Reaching Out]

“Our Mission and
       Our Work:
     Salt & Light”

Jesus said more about doing good to others than just about anything else in the Word. In the Sermon on the Mount He says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” One of our primary goals in 2010 will be to seed ‘good deeds for real needs’ projects.

            2. The Net of Fruitfulness!
                        [Reaching In]

            “Our Mission and Our Work:
                              Be Fruitful”

Fruit or fruitfulness is a metaphor used by God throughout the Word to illustrate how God’s family grows. God told Jacob, “I am God Almighty, be fruitful and multiply.” This promise and command is our second net for 2010. It’s a net we will cover our people with to encourage them to grow in fruitfulness.

Our 2009 Vision Continues to grow....
  1. "Taking Ownership
    of What God has Given"

Casting a vision based on Joshua 1:1-9.
  2. Getting Ready for the Days Ahead
Knowing the will of God for the future!
